"I learned." It wasn’t exactly her choice. Saint Valentine had graced her with the opportunity to run the stolen wine fence, and she had no other chance but to take it. She was a negotiator and a trader, never seeing the goods but talking number and files. Ace took care of the physical labor, from his deli by the docks. Not to mention, the big man had a sweet tooth. He liked her canollis.

"It’s not that bad, actually. Don’t burn too much. Lots of homemade Italian pastries, free newspapers and umbrellas if you need them…" Her voice trails off in thought. She hoped that her little assistant had gotten her note, considering she had gone home early from sickness. It was bad this morning, she couldn’t even eat breakfast. Jack had made eggs and the smell alone shoved her out on the back porch to avoid losing last night’s dinner in the sink. "I should actually still be there."

Gillespie’s purr is very loud and very happy. Someone’s been enjoying the big backyard and warm weather, considering he’d spent most of his life avoiding the snow. “Yeah, lots of ‘em.” She takes a moment to consider whether or not Oz knew about Jac. Perhaps she could offer an explanation. The question is sudden and seems a bit worried. “Have you heard from Jac recently?”

*Oz chuckles.* Such enthusiasm… Sounds like someone threw you in and it was sink or swim. I could show you a pretty good pie recipe I learned at my first base, if you want. Most of us weren’t very good in the kitchen so the Engineer just taught us how to make leftovers pies.

Um. *Now that she think about it, Narcisse hasn’t said anything about Jac for a while. Between visiting family and working assignments from BLU they’ve been busy… The last time she can remember Narcisse mentioning him was to comment on how difficult it must be to get mail to people with no fixed address.* I don’t think we have. How’s he doing?

Technically, respawn hasn’t buried us under six feet of dirt before.

That’s why I didn’t say buried, just dead.

If you wanted to be an asshole, you should have just said so.  *mumbleswouldhavebeeneasiermumble*

Takes one to know one.

Sometimes you meet someone, and it’s so clear that the two of you, on some level belong together. As lovers, or as friends, or as family, or as something entirely different. You just work, whether you understand one another or you’re in love or you’re partners in crime. You meet these people throughout your life, out of nowhere, under the strangest circumstances, and they help you feel alive. I don’t know if that makes me believe in coincidence, or fate, or sheer blind luck, but it definitely makes me believe in something. unknown  (via desertblooms)

For a brief moment, she’s confused as to if she’s ever mentioned her brother to Oz. Most likely not. It takes a few seconds to retranslate the sentence in her mind. Oh. Ace as in good, Biscotti is good. Sometimes it’s hard not having English as her first language. “Good, I have some that I just made this morning.”

Fran gives a smile and a nod, considering her current situation. She wonders to sit on the couch adjacent to her, thinking about how much better she was feeling here. “Yeah, it is. Family’s always close.” Biological and gang wise. It was nice to actually have connections around here. “And we’ve been well, I own a bakery now. Jack’s back to his old job.” Other than her recent bouts of sickness, they’d been doing really well here. Having money to spend was a bit of a new asset to her, as well. So she was having a bit of trouble controlling herself when it came to clothes and such.

Speak of the devil, that cat comes prowling in and promptly parks himself on the couch next to his owner. Boy, was he fat. And also fluffy. Fran reaches over to stroke his back lazily. “Even better. Dog has some good playmates, familiar ones.” Ace had taken in Joli after she had found her abandoned, Jac nowhere to be found. “And Gil just keeps getting fatter.”

*Nope, Oz has only heard vague things about Fran’s brothers, mostly from Narcisse about the Spy’s brief run-in with them. That was a while ago, though. Back then, they hadn’t even met Jack yet. She wonders if they’ve realized how annoying he is yet — but this is something she would never say to Fran.*

A bakery? I didn’t know you bake. *She eyes the cat, grown to the size where sitting down manages to hide his back haunches entirely and create the illusion that he’s a much longer cat actually coming out of the floor.* Though it looks like Gillespie does. Don’t let Narcisse see him like that or he’ll read you the riot act about diabetes rates in house cats. Our Bonnie is a born mouser and he’s right proud of it.

*Privately, Oz is glad that Dog doesn’t seem about to barrel in to make her appearance as well. She likes dogs but that one has too much enthusiasm. And maybe Jack has managed to train her to pee on people he doesn’t like or something.* So, there are lots of other dogs around here? *Oz doesn’t know about Joli.*

Fae gave a sad smile. “I’m sure you two will make it work, you’re like the perfect couple yeah?”

*shrugs* No couple is perfect. But yeah… I guess we will. I hope so. But for now, I don’t know what to do with myself before I fly back. Narcisse has a little sister to get to know, I’m just here.

Sorry, it must just be allergies or something… You’re still laughing at me.

"Sorry sorry I’ll stop…" She checked Oz nose. "Allergies you say?"

Um, yeah. I get sinus headaches sometimes. *is still blushing*

"Mmm hmm. Anyways…how are you and Narcisse?"

Uh… kind of distant, actually. It’s been a hard few months, work wise — I mean we work together, and the job itself is a lot of stress.

I haven’t gotten any calls while I’ve been out here. It’s like… a break for both of us. Not sure how I feel about that.
